It's just some ideas routes suddenly pop-ups from my adventure seeker mind..haha..other than already planned trip, this is one of them...others I'll share later

Kuala Lumpur fly to Istanbul (better if by AirAsia..need to wait they launch first), or fly to Tehran, Iran (by Airasia) and then by 70 hours train to Istanbul (USD70 only) for adventure hardcore or else by plane...then, by Turkey train to any part of Greece ...fly to any part of Italy (driving some part of Italy) ..fly to Portugal (driving some part of Portugal) ..bus to Spain (driving some part of Spain)...ferry to Morocco...fly to Egypt ..take bus to Jordan passing Israel border (explore Jordan and overnight in the desert) or fly to Jordan ...take bus to Jeddah/fly to Jeddah..and perform Umrah/Ziarah at Makkah ...fly back to Kuala Lumpur (by AirAsia)

So, what do you think about my plan? I'll make a backpacking cost research later..the cheaper the better!!!

Backpacking South Korea - Jeju Island & Seoul

This is a 9 days 8 nights trip with my hubby, sister and friends. We wanted to visit places featured in many Korean dramas and movies famously and widely watch and also places suggested in their tourism website. For your information, I am the biggest fanatic Korean dramas/movies/music/culture/language fan..:) I think I ranked below 100th in Malaysia. Who can beat me watching either drama or movie at least 1 to 2 episode per day and going to class to learn Hangul so that I can go deeper with the drama/movie I watched (It's so distracting if I need to read the subtitles while watching), going to their concerts in Malaysia and also eating their foods although the price is quite expensive. The reason maybe simple but now I'm thinking to further my language study in Seoul. Pray to Allah that my husband will hit the jackpot soon..:)

Enough with the craziness, let's write about the trip shall I. As usual the information given will be benefited most to the backpackers because if you used a travel agent, I bet the experience will be very much different. I enjoyed backpacking because I am free to do whatever I want, to visit, to stop, to eat, to shop at wherever I want. I used to love Geography subject and maybe that's the beginning of my addicted to travel sickness. This kind of illness can never be treated until I conquer the world...sound so corny isn't it?..hahhaa..whatever, nevermind...

Day 1 (2 July 2011)
This is the day when I first experienced sleeping at the airport floor with the irritating sound of buzling bus and mosquito. Worse because is not inside of the airport but actually it was outside. I might read wrong information about Gimpo Airport or maybe there's new rules. I don't know really. Thank God none of us get sick due to this. It's still too early to get sick even a flu sometimes can be quite troublesome for a holiday to be enjoyable.

We arrived at Incheon airport around 9.30 pm after 6 hours 50 minutes flying from Kuala Lumpur and the plan was to go straight away to Gimpo airport by Airport train (₩3,400) for the earliest flight to Jeju Island . Return flight tickets to Jeju Island were already purchased on-line at Asiana airlines website a month before (₩90,180 for return). Here some photos on day 1.

Day 2 (3 July 2011)
Due to bad weather, our flight was delayed by two hours. It's took 1 hour to reach Jeju Island. In Jeju Island, we rented a car for 3 days from Avis car rental (₩172,800 inclusive GPS). There's a free shuttle bus to their office which is located a few kilometers from the airport. The car is equipped with GPS. Just key-in any place's phone number and the GPS will show us the direction to that place. They had provided us also a map and list of attraction with phone number. My first impression of Jeju's people that they are very friendly and helpful. Since the place we are going to stay had kitchen in it, we went to the local wet market to buy vegetables, fruits and seafood. Halmeoni (grandmother) in the market were very kind, we get some free fruits after trying to speak their language a little. We spent ₩44,500 here (crab, kimchi, clam, fish, plum, banana, local cucumber, onion, chili and etc2).

On the way to our guesthouse White Scenery(₩24,000/person/night), we stopped for a while at Hyeopjae Beach. This white sandy beach is awesome, the water was so clean and although the weather was hot, the water was so cold. Not like normal cold but it's waterfall kind of cold. After check-in, cooked, had lunch and rest, we went to Jungmun Resort Complex, the location is very near to our guesthouse. For today, we just went to Lotte world hotel and Jungmun beach. If you are a Korean drama die hard fans, you must know the well-known windmill located inside the hotel. The latest drama had a scene there was 'Scent of a woman' starring Kim Sun Ah and Lee Dong Wook. We also took a picture with the famous hal-abeoji (grandfather) stone. Later, we went to the nearby beach. It is an ideal black sandy beach for surfers and coincidentally, they had a world surfing contest that day. Despite the heavy waves, there's still area for swimmers like us. I love the feeling of swimming at a beach that I had never been before. For beach lover like me, I think it is a priceless moments. Thinking of the beach now makes me really wanted to go there again.....

Day 3 (4 July 2011)
On day three, we went climbing at Mount Hallasan National Park. There's a few trails and I decided to climb via Yeongsil Trail. No guide needed and we do not have to register too. The only charge was only for car park (₩1,800). The track was nicely built and safe for their people and tourist to enjoy the beautiful scenery and plants throughout the climbing. Their amazing forest are different from ours, but all of them are nature created by the one and only God and I am so thankful for the unforgettable beautiful journey. Since it was Summer, the color of the plants were green same like ours. I had read somewhere that the best time for climbing in South Korea is during Autumn when the color of the plant will change to a bright colors and the weather will be drier.

Back from climbing, we stopped a while at Jeju's orange farm. The oranges were a bit pricey (around ₩30,000 for a dozen) so we did not buy any. However, juices were cheaper than other imported orange juices. I think the processed one does not have that special value anymore. Then, we went to one of the three most famous waterfall, Cheonjiyeon waterfall (₩2,000) and had our packed lunch here. Since we were kind of tired that day, we just walked around this area, enjoying the Jeju's marvelous views and later went to Jeju Olympic Stadium, before we call it a day, went swimming at Jungmun Beach again until sundown. From what I had seen, when it's dark you are not allowed to swim. There's even a coast guards and polices to make sure of this.

Day 4 (5 July 2011)
On day 4 after purchased admission tickets from travel counter (get 5-10% discount), first destination was Herb's Garden (₩5,600). Here we can found thousand types of herbs. It's different from normal garden because all of them are edible. Many I had never seen before. The place was so beautifully gardened and had a romantic feeling. We had a mixed ice (ABC) with a lot of fruits and flower petals (₩10,000). Someday, I absolutely will create one when I own a landed house with a big courtyard in Malaysia.

Later, we visited Jeju's folk village (free). This small traditional village is no longer occupied. However, surprisingly the horrible smell of pig is still there. I am not sure why they left those smelly animals there. Maybe to add some real feeling for tourist to feel and watch. I am not sure why. But I wish someday they can get rid of that animals so that Muslims can be more comfortable to visit.

After about an hour of very slow driving (need to follow the speed limit), we arrived at one of Jeju's main attraction, the Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) (₩2,000). The view from below was so awesome and kept attracting us to walk up to the peak. It has a very nice people friendly walking path to make sure the climb is safer and easier.

Then, we went to Gimnyeong Maze Park (₩3,000). The Maze park was designed by the world famous company Andrian Fisher Monotaur Maze Designs and funded by American Prof at Cheju National University, Frederic H. Dustin. This unique maze park contains foliages from all over Asia and has been personally maintained by Dr Dunstan. Here, you will be given a map and need to brilliantly choose a way to complete the game. I think I have a very high IQ because it took only 5-10 minutes for me to finishing, when many end up at the starting point again and again..:)hahahha..(gelak berlagak). We had our packed lunch here outside the park.

After drove back to Teddy bear museum (₩7,500) located very near to our guesthouse. We were supposed to go to this place first, bad decision made this morning and due to this we had to skip Manjanggul cave. If you watch the very famous Korean drama, Goong (Princess hours) then you must know this museum where the prince's grandmother and princess Shin Chae Kyeong (played by Yoon Eun Hye) came to visit and played around before the prince Lee Shin (played by actor Joo Ji Hoon) came and drove them around, taking photos, singing and dancing. I felt like Alice in a wonderland here, so many cute Teddy bears collection.

Then, we decided to go for swimming at the first Hyeopjae Beach (had been here on first day in Jeju).

Last destination of the day was Love Land (₩8,500) . It is an outdoor sculpture park which focused on a theme of sex, running sex education films, and featuring sculptures representing humans in various sexual positions, It also has other elements such as large phallus statues, stone labia and hands-on exhibits such as "masturbation-cycle." The park's website describes the location as " a place where love oriented art and eroticism meet".

Day 5 (6 July 2011)
Today, we flew back to Seoul (8.35am flight). We arrived at Gimpo airport about an hour later and took airport train to Hongik University Station (₩1,100). Our guesthouse located here which is famously known as Hongdae area. Korean drama "Mary Stayed Out All Night?Marry Me, Mary!" was mostly filmed here. I wonder how many thousands of University student during the shooting? I wish I am one of them. But I think their entertainment industry is really booming because I had encountered filmed/drama/commercial shooting not once but twice during my short visit. I wonder if I purposely looking for it, I might easily met many actors here..:)

We arrived at Mr. Kim's Friend Guesthouse too early and it's not yet time for check-in. We left our backpacks here and went looking for Halal foods at Itaewon area (via Subway at ₩900) . We were starving like crazy that day. After lunch, we walked to Seoul Mosque (climbing a mountainous road actually). In this area, you can found excessive Halal restaurants but most of them are not Korean foods. Many are from middle east and India/Pakistan. But I like the Korean Kebab, they put Bulgogi instead of normal meat.

Later in the late afternoon, we went to Hangang Park (via subway stop at Yeuido Station). We planned to take a boat cruise here, but due to raining season and the water level was high that time, their government forbid all cruise boat companies to operate. While some of us just lay on the bed of grasses, me and my sister actively went cycling. Thanks to my teenager's body and spirit..:) I felt it was a waste of time if I just sleep. Better sleep at night on proper bed when I had fully used my energy including my spare tank energy..:)

Before writing a blog on my next trip, I wanted to write on some preparations I had made for my next backpacking trip with hubby, sister and 2 girlfriends. This time I actually learned in proper class their language and this Friday would be my last class for Level 1 (10 classes in total). The next level would be in September. I can 100% read but still not 100% understanding what I read. Meaning next time I can choose their songs for karaoke..:) Because of I am a biggest fan of their dramas which I watched like 1-4 hours daily, It's help a lot in pronouncing and understanding. Some people may not understand but for die hard fan like me, the learning is just something that I had so much fun with especially with a nice, pretty seonsaeng nim.

As usual, I want to share my planning and cost (some divided by 5) for my next trip. All flight tickets are so cheap especially the AirAsia flight and Asiana return flight to Jeju bought was the discounted fare 50%-60% purchased 1 month before departure. All accommodations come with free wifi and kitchen. Feel free to follow if you want to...

Backpacking India 2011

INDIA. Some love it, others hate it. It is the country of contrast and many dimensions. The marvels of the Himalayan peaks, steppes, exotic beaches and magical tea plantations blend with over-populated, dirty and far too noisy cities. Still, this huge country is a magnet for hundreds of backpackers. Adventurous travelers will not be disappointed. India is simply fascinating and addictive and also super inexpensive. The country has a great rail service, which is quite inexpensive, but the huge distances between the cities and major attractions make the journeys very long and tiring. There are also plenty of public and private buses that run very frequently. Planes are also an option if you book in advance you can get a good price.

This is 9 days trip 100% arranged by me, from A to Z.What I can tell in overall that I enjoyed very much backpacking in India, their monuments are so many and beautiful, their natures are huge and amazing an their people are friendly and helpful thou sometimes I found some of them make me laugh and some made me cry especially the poor one, their foods..ummppp I don't really like..haha. For adventure seeker like me, if you're bored with sightseeing and shopping only, there's so many extreme activities you can try. Travelers should not worry about all unpleasant things, they should just enjoy and take it easy on the new things they acquaintance. It's not about the destination, the perfect holiday or whatever!!!

29 January 2011 (KL to New Delhi):

Five hours flight to New Delhi from Kuala Lumpur by AirAsiaX seems very short with the very happening friends on board, and I am truly sorry for others for the noise we made..:). Since this is our first time in India, I made an arrangement with our hotel for airport transfer that cost us Rs.500/taxi. Actually, it's only cost about half the price if you just use airport taxi. When we arrived at the New King Hotel, I am quite shocked with the surrounding which unpleasant to see. I just kept in mind, this is just a short stay where we'll check-out the next day early in the morning to catch a train to Chandigarh. The room was very cheap after all (Rs.400/room/night), so no high expectation for the hotel.

After freshened up, and after hotel manager convinced us that it was safe outside, then we decided to walk outside pretty late around 10.45 p.m looking for foods. The homeless people are not a bad guy after all. They just watched us and gave us a welcome smile I guess. We found only 1 restaurant nearby that opens until 11.00 p.m. and decided to give it a try. The unfamiliar vege dinner turn out to be just fine, non-vege is still the best..:)

30 January 2011 (New Delhi to Chandigarh to Manali):
Early check-out today, our train departed at 7.40 a.m. I bought the train ticket on-line through makemytrip website. The price for AC chair was Rs.435 and additional Rs.20 for IRCTC service fee,Rs. 20 for Makemytrip service fee and 1.8% credit card fee. Unbelievable, with just a small fare we get free meal. The journey is short but I always enjoy train ride no matter how long and how short. I can see ordinary people's way of living. There's some disturbing moments if you travel early in the morning. I think their government should take some action regarding their people doing that early morning 'biz' openly. I understand they are the poorest I guess they do not have proper toilet, but that is not a reason you can just throw your 'shit' anywhere you please. Welcome to India!!!hehe..what an experience you can't buy.

Arrived at Chandigarh railway station at 11.05 a.m. and continue our journey to Manali by renting a car with driver for the next 4 days and 3 nights. The cost for Innova after divided by six of us was only Rs.2000/person. I found this website, Chandigarh Taxi Service offered the cheapest rates where others charging Rs.17k to Rs.20k. The driver's name is Sukindran, we called him Suki. He's the nicest, the best driver compared to others while in India. Highly recommended. The 11 hours journey is very long I can say but it's convenient because we can stop wherever we want. Forgot to take vomit pills, some of us were having a hard time including me 3 times vomiting..:(..Arrived at Shartak Resort, Manali at 10.30 pm. We get the best rate from hostelworld at Rs.880/room/night. Since it's already dark outside, what I can just say about Manali was...SO DAMN ICY COLD!!!! and there's snow!!!

Wake up and open the curtain...wow!!! what a marvelous view!!!seriously amazing view. I bet most of my friends are envying me right now

After another vegetarian breakfast at the hotel restaurant, we started exploring Manali on day 1. We went to an old temple called Hadimba temple. Just spent half an hour there, nothing special just an old temple which I did not really appreciate..until we met couple of aunties offered to take photos with her cute, huge, fluffy angora rabbit with a small charge Rs.10/person. I am so happy!!!:)P..cheers from animals lover - Anne

Next plan - to learn skiing at Solang Valley. On the way, we rented a proper snow suits, gloves and boots together with 1 ski board and 1 guide (Rs.600/person) for 1 day. This area the snow is thicker but with a generous amount of sunshine that day, the coldness is hardly feelable. I am so prepare for the sunburn!!! We spent our remaining day here. Other than skiing, we did paragliding (Rs.850), horse riding (Rs.100), tube sledding (Rs.100) and snow fighting (free).

1 February 2011 (Manali)

Went to art gallery/house owned by Russian family whose son married to Indian woman. If you want to know more about this family read HERE. I wish someday I owned a house with a magnificent mountainous view like Mr. Nicholas Roerich's house.

Later, went to Tibetan monastery. The place is so 'National Geographic'. I used to watch this kind of place on TV, many documentaries on them being shown to the world. I think this school could win 'school with the most beautiful scenery', if there is such award.

Then, unprepared we decided to do 7 km water rafting (Rs.850/person) at icy cold Beas River. The water level was low and it was a low season for water rafting but it was still full of excitement and new rafting experience in cold weather wearing thin inner clothing. Just imagine we had water fighting on raft. It was fun!!! Because we did not bring swimming attire, we had to dry our clothes in the sun while having lunch by the beas river.

After lunch, went to local factory shop selling woolen clothes, yak, pashmina, angora items. I bought the super smooth angora shawl, socks and cap and also the woolen knitting long cardigan. If you don't have cash, no worries credit card accepted (off budget spending because of this..blame credit card)

At night, walk around Manali town. I think my jacket is not suitable for this super duper cold weather, I hardly enjoy shopping not like usual, shopping is like my second job. I can do shop for others for free. This place was too cold beyond my imagination. That's why I end up buying woolen gloves and socks again, not thinking that those things are useless in my country:) We bought fried trout fish (sick of vege foods) and eat them with plain rice and enjoy it with local fruits...Yummy!!!

2 February 2011 (Manali/Kullu/Chandigarh)

Today we had to go back to Chandigarh and our next train was at 9.05pm. Start journey on empty stomach, just after the sunrise and had breakfast on the way at Kullu (restaurant by the Beas river). Nice view here and we managed to captured some Samsung NX100 moments.

Our youngest sibling is Officially a degree holder!!!

Last Sunday went to UiTM for my sister's convocation. Although my parents had attended this sort of function several times at the past, but I think this one is more special to them because she's the youngest in the family. Now, Mat Yacob and Latifah had five degree holders' children that they can proud of. I love you, Aboh and Mee..The thing that make me a little sad on that day is the fact that my younger brother, Arwah Falee is not around. He used to be the closest brother to her, who helped her a lot during her study years. Congratulation Sis!!!

Insyaallah (with God will), our next plan is travelling in Northern India in Jan/Feb 2011 during the long holidays (Federal Day + Chinese New Year). This time, my travelling companions are my great husband and four fantastic girl friends. After months of research, I found out India is a also suitable for backpacking, from bus ticket, train ticket, budget hotel, tour, car rental, all can pay and booking on-line by credit card. Their google maps also quite reliable with the direction for public transport (New Delhi) that we still don't have in Malaysia. I don't like traveling without proper booking. I hate to face fully booked hotel or ticket sold out. Since we are on tight budget, early planning and booking can save a lot. The plan and cost is as follows..you may copy this as reference since I think this is the best routes and the cheapest and easy option if you want to travel to Delhi, Manali, Agra and Jaipur in 9 days. Some people choose for the 15 hours bus ride direct from New Delhi to Manali, not me because I don't like long bus ride at night passing mountainous road. I feel unsafe. But it's up to you. Ok, Happy travelling!!!Flight ticket done!!!wish me luck with this journey.

Mabul Island & Tawau City

How to get there from KL: flight to Tawau and transfer to Samporna and take a boat there
Location: Sabah, East Malaysia
Date: 22nd-26th July 2010
Flight Cost (KL to Tawau): RM25 return (bought during airasia promo)
Trip buddy: Azdan, Ifah, Zue, Beb, Ayie, Amin, Umai and Aishah

I will remember this trip forever. Why? because my late brother (Falee) is supposely to join this trip and a month before, he was so excited for the trip. I remember him calling me many times, "when are we going to Mabul?", "when is the trip?" I ask him, do you have the money for the trip, and he replied "yes, i have", however he asked me "can i pay your debt later after the trip", I said "ok", I knew he would pay sooner or later, he is such a good kid, he never miss to pay to me, to other sisters and friends...But, the accident changed everything, he left this world so sudden, my mood for the trip turns upside down. What was came out on my mind was just simply call off the trip. I don't care about the beautiful island, the sea, dives, turtle, fish, moon, star and sky. A few days after he left this world, when I came into my sense again, my hubby asked me not to cancel the trip for the sake of my beloved friends.

Day 1 (22 July 2010)
Our flight to Tawau was at night and we stayed a night at Tawau city at budget hotel called Sutera Inn. Cost us around RM25/person.

Day 2 (23 July 2010)
The next morning around 10.30am after breakfast, travel to Samporna by public mini bus for a total distance around 100km (RM13/person). Then, by boat to our kampung style water chalet at Mabul Island. We took a package from Scuba Jeff that cost us RM390/person inclusive 3 nights lodging, boat transfer, meal and 3xsnorkeling trip.

We walked around the island, meeting the locals, bajau laut and Suluk people and water splash splash in front of our water chalet. At night we celebrated a small birthday party, with live singing performed by chalet's staff

Day 3 (24 July 2010)
Morning had breakfast and chill out facing the magnificent view of the blue sea. Our activities on day three was included in the package, snorkeling around the island 2 times, 1 hour each. with additional cost of RM300/person, me and Edan had 3 dives. The dive sites we went were Seaventure platform, Froggie's Lair and ????. Later after short nap, we walked around the island again but this time we went to the grand, high-end water chalet resort (USD1k/night) and dream rich. At night, watching local's live band at Uncle Cheng chalet. Song of the night was Waka waka, the world cup theme song. I love it!!!

Day 4 (25 July 2010)
Free activity..lepak, swimming, had meals facing the sea, singing. Enjoying every single moments. Appreciating God Almighty's creation with husband and friends.

Day 5 (26 July 2010)
Had photo memoir session with the staff. Back to mainland, pearl shopping at Semporna and by charter van drive back to Tawau, did a little local product shopping, had super duper delicious seafood dinner and flew back to KL
